What is the Campaign about?
Our society largely turns its back on the subject of dementia. People are uncomfortable around dementia sufferers, and there is a lack of information, which means that sufferers are frequently marginalised. They are simply missing from our consciousness. But that is where they belong.
Why is this important?
Dementia concerns us all. In future, more and more people will be directly affected, or will be confronted with dementia because their family or loved ones are affected. We should therefore all ask ourselves how we want to treat people with dementia? How can I prepare myself for the illness? What can we do with others? Dementia must not remain a taboo subject – that helps no-one. We are for inclusion and participation.
What can I do?
We might meet people with dementia anywhere. Usually, we do not notice that they have dementia. But sometimes someone needs our help and support. So just be there for people with dementia. Give them the feeling of belonging. Show them, “I am here for you!” and make a stand for them.
